Meet The Founder
MEHMA SINGH
Mehma Singh is a fourth-generation textile entrepreneur, who faced an unprecedented fashion industry slump as a result of the pandemic. It was something of a wake-up call to change the way fashion operates. “We knew that we had to start doing things differently, not only in terms of raw materials and fabrics but also the production process,” says Singh, who now creates clothing out of hemp. “My great-grandparents were cotton and silk traders when they moved to India seven decades ago, and slowly shifted from natural to synthetic materials as trends changed and polyester gained popularity,” says Singh. Now, the brand founder feels like she’s come full circle. “Now, we’re back to where the family started with an emphasis on natural fabrics and sustainably sourced raw materials.”
Although her brand is barely a year old, Singh is (rightfully) proud of launching—and thriving—despite the global tumult. “Launching during a pandemic in India (which was facing one of the most stringent lockdowns in the world) was a great success in itself.”
