Connie Lo and Laura Beget were growing increasingly frustrated with the amount of overpriced and greenwashed beauty brands in the clean beauty space. So they launched their own line of trustworthy—and affordable—skincare with the promise of “forever under $40” in 2017.
The Toronto-based pair launched the brand with just $4,000 of their own savings while working full-time jobs. On weekends, they’d set up shop at farmers’ markets and craft fairs. Early on, they knew they were onto something. “So many customers bonded with us over the shared frustration of natural beauty products being too expensive, and we immediately knew we had product-market fit,” says Lo.
From humble roots at local markets, Lo and Beget appeared on Dragon’s Den (Canada’s take on Shark Tank) and landed on the Forbes 30 under 30 list. Still, Lo says they’re proudest of customer reviews—reading them is the highlight of Lo’s day. “We started Three Ships Beauty to prove that natural skincare can be just as effective as synthetic and chemical, and our thousands of positive customer reviews are proof of just that!”
