Meet The Founder
For Dame’s founder Alexandra Fine, “sex has always seemed like a very natural thing to be curious about.” Fine had the intention of becomign a sex therapist, earning a master's in clinical psychology with a concentration in sex therapy from Columbia University. But she realized that she could have more impact by starting a company.
Fine started making vibrator prototypes in her kitchen, tinkering with silver-dollar coins and plastic wrap. Once she joined forces with an MIT-trained engineer and made kitchen experiments into real-life products, Dame Products was born. Their first product, Eva (the first wearable couples vibrator) launched in 2014 as an Indiegogo campaign. “It was so clear that there was an overwhelming need for products designed to prioritize vulvas.”
Another proud moment for Fine was making Dame the first pleasure product on Kickstarter’s platform. “That was a really powerful because we weren’t just making waves in the sex-tech industry. We were also changing the way that the world looked at pleasure and breaking down age-old barriers.” Community is also important: Fine has built her brand around real-time feedback from Dame’s community. “Because sex is more than just what we do in the bedroom.”
