By any measure, Emily Warren has already had a remarkable career. She’s a much sought-after vocalist anda Grammy-winning, multi-platinum songwriter. But these impressive milestones mark merely the start of Warren’s career as a solo performer and artist in her own right. Her first single, “Hurt By You,” was released this May, and reached a million streams within a two-week period. So where does this pop music powerhouse find the inspo to keep trotting out hits not only for some of the industry’s biggest players, but herself as well? Peep all her secrets below.

Power Mantra

“Life is short.”

“I’m a firm believer in making the most of what you know you have, while you have it. If you’re unhappy and you have the ability to get yourself out, do it.”

Skin Care Essential

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser. I love this face wash. I don’t go anywhere without it. It’s super light and leaves your face smelling and feeling amazing. And GlamGlow ThirstyMud Hydrating Treatment. Every single time I get on a plane, I put this on and genuinely, my skin is better when I get off than it was when I sat down. Every damn time. Also, Milk Makeup Cooling Water. It’s life-changing, and that’s all I’m gonna say about that.”

Can’t Miss Podcast

“I love TED Radio Hourbecause almost every single one is completely mind blowing. I’ve learned so much from this podcast, and listening to people speak about the subjects they study is incredibly interesting. I took a road trip with my boyfriend this summer, where we had seven or eight-hour drives every few days, and this podcast kept us entertained the whole way.”

Happy Place Outfit

“Honestly, ninety-nine percent of what I wear is from thrift and vintage stores. Everything is so well made, as it’s been around for a while—sometime upwards of three decades. It’s all reasonably priced if you’re willing to dig, and you’ll be the only person who owns it—that’s the best part. My favorite thrift stores I’ve ever been to are The Velvet Tower (primarily in Detroit, with pop ups in NY and other locations), A Outra Face Da Lua in Lisbon, and Regal Vintage in Denver, Colorado.”

Currently Reading

“I just finished the Neapolitan series by Elena Ferrante and I don’t know if I’ve ever read a better book than this collection of four. They’re absolutely incredible. I’m so upset it’s over. Everything I’ve tried to read since pales in comparison.”

Productivity Hack

“Color code your apps. See what I mean?!”

Flats, Sneakers, Or Heels?

“Nike Air Force 1s! You gotta be comfortable, and that’s pretty much all that matters.”

Self-Care Method Of Choice

“Chugging water at all times. Staying hydrated is important because ‘water is life,’ and once you start drinking tons of water, you’ll notice your skin glowing and your mood is better. It’swild how much of a difference it makes.”
