Space Invader: Stylist Djuna Bel & Her Insanely Gorgeous Home

Hey there, queens of the universe. Nasty Galaxy drops on October 4; have you pre-ordered your copy of this linen-bound, full-color, brimming-with-advice, cocktail-party-in-your-lap? It picks up where#GIRLBOSS left off and dives into all the inspirational, bizarre, funny, endearing, glamorous (and a few definitively unglamorous) nooks of Sophia’s life. It’s all in there, and we can’t wait for you to see it.

In the weeks leading up to the release, we’ll be taking you on a journey around L.A. to get to know some of the baddest mamajamas in the galaxy who inspire Sophia on the regular. So far, we’ve stopped in to visit Nicole Katz of Paper Chase Press, Amanda Chantal Bacon of Moon Juice and Helen Johannesen of Helen’s Wines. Check back in the coming weeks to see where we’re headed next!

As it turns out, when it comes to house envy, there are two different kinds with which you can become afflicted: the regular isn’t-that-a-pretty-gallery-wall kind, and then the kind where you see Djuna Bel’s home and everything else looks lame and boring from that point forward. The wardrobe stylist and her artist-builder fiancé live in a light-filled, wood-paneled, high-brow-boho dream that only gifted aesthetes could produce. As a stylist, Bel has been the eye behind commercials for Levi’s, Coca Cola, Nike, and as she put it, “every phone company under the sun.” She’s styled spreads for Vogue, W, and Interview, to name a few, and her celebrity client list for special events reads like a veritable who’s who of Hollywood.

We broughtNasty Galaxyout to northeast LA to get it some of that distinctive Djuna style and leather-couch lounge time. Check it out!

To you, what is a Girlboss?

A Girlboss is someone who has big dreams and takes her life goals and aspirations into her own hands; she knows she’s responsible for reaching her goals.

Tell us a little bit about your space. What inspired the aesthetic?

My fiancé is an artist and builder, so he was able to bring a lot of both of our personal home fantasies to fruition. We wanted to create a space that had a lot of light and the ability to combine indoor and outdoor living (the California dream!). The sunken living room was inspired by some of my favorite ’70s interiors, but it was also the most logistical way to configure a space for the game night that we host.

The backyard at some point will become a full Japanese-meets-California spa. We are still working on that 😉

What role do you see yourself playing in the galaxy of L.A.?

I like to think that I inspire others to follow their dreams. I have a large network of amazing people around me who I am constantly inspired by, and I am really into the idea of building an alliance of artists who help each other instead of compete against each other.

Anything exciting on the horizon?

Yeah.  I just heard my fiancé was making cobbler tonight.
