The Pay Gap At A Glance: An Illustrated Look At Where We Are Right Now

Back in 1996, the National Committee on Pay Equity designated a date in April as “Equal Pay Day” to get the public talking about the persistent pay gap between men and women. This year, April 10 marks how far into 2018 the average woman has to work to earn what the average man earned in 2017.

Yes—women have to do more than *three months’ extra work* to earn the same amount their male counterparts did the previous year. There’s more to the pay gap, though, and it doesn’t apply to every woman in the same way.
